Chaparral Pines

The gated community of Chaparral Pines enjoys magnificent year-round golf weather in the gorgeous mountain and National Forest setting of Payson, Arizona, just 90 minutes northeast of Phoenix and Scottsdale. The private, 18-hole championship course was designed by well-regarded golf architect Gary Panks and U.S. Open and PGA Champion David Graham. It opened in 1997 and was immediately named one of the Top 10 New Private Golf Courses in the U.S. by Golf Digest. Golfweek magazine placed it in the top half of America’s Top 100 Residential Golf Courses.

The par-72 course highlights include many stimulating challenges among the relaxing atmosphere of the largest stand of ponderosa pine in the U.S. and an array of beautiful lakes, streams, and washes. Junior golfers can get in on the action with a program of lessons taught by the golf staff that emphasize golf essentials: basic swing, putting, sand play, etiquette, and rules.

The 27,000-square-foot clubhouse at Chaparral Pines is the perfect gathering place for swimming, tennis, and workouts by day, and family barbecues or romantic dinners by night. Outdoor activities include basketball, volleyball, and other events at the eight-acre Trailhead Park, and nearby picturesque areas for hiking and fishing. A trail system that helps keep the community connected also provides access to its biggest neighbor—Tonto National Forest, where camping and exploring the Native American ruins is fun for the whole family.

Custom homes are priced from the low $500s and built to blend into the natural forest surroundings. A Builder’s Guild supervises the design and construction to maintain and preserve the integrity of this beautiful landscape.
