It is possible to live in paradise on one of the most beautiful chain of islands in the world. On the island of Kaua’i in Hawaii the majestic southern shores are home to the Kukui’ula master planned community, resort, and golf course. The tropical theme that attracts so many visitors to Hawaii is prevalent in everything from the structure of the community of homes to the shores that snake along the path the golf course follows. Residents have the chance to experience the sultry sway of palm trees, the open skies of the starry night, and the world famous Hawaiian sunsets every day.

The name Kukui’ula, like many other Hawaiian words, has a rich history. The Kukui nut was once used as a makeshift candle and burned in coconut shells when the first Hawaiians lived upon the islands. The color of the oil that burned brightly red was called ‘ula’ hence the name Kukui’ula. The designers of this community named it as such since it provides the light which is needed to metaphorically bring its residents home. At home is exactly how you’ll feel when you look out your floor to ceiling windows into the island paradise that surrounds you.

The championship golf course at Kukui’ula was developed by Tom Weiskopf. The 18-hole course spans 216 acres. The course is much more challenging than most with sand traps, water barriers, land barriers, and the distraction of the panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean which is visible from nearly every hole. Players should also be wary of the wind which can sweep across the land in various directions making each holes play unique every time.

The luxurious plantation clubhouse off the course offers a casual yet elegant place for gatherings both large and small. Visitors can sit out upon the large lanais which wraps around the plantation, offering generous views of the course, the ocean, and the Hawaiian sunset in the evening. Inside the one story clubhouse is his and her locker rooms with their own large private lounges. The pro shop carries a wide array of the latest golfing equipment including clothing for the most avid of golfers. Golf cart rentals are available and before or after returning the cart you may want to stop by the snack bar for a bite to eat.

If you seek other pleasures than golfing a short distance away is the large swimming pool, exotic gardens, and the pool grille. Perhaps you’d prefer to have a dinner party in the clubhouse? The dining area has accommodations indoors or out on the pavilion for a meal under the stars. Whether you prefer to have an intimate setting with a few special people or a large gathering the plantation is more than willing to see to your needs. Of course, residents are also welcome to attend the events which offer dancing and dining which represent the traditions of the island.

If you’re looking for a place to relax then you may want to check out the Kukui’ula spa and fitness center. Not only is the spa partly outdoors, it also has a beautiful waterfall which offers a serene meditation area for those seeking a more spiritual experience. A treatment table within the water offers a special kind of massage. There are plenty of places for traditional massage, skin therapies which include treatments using plants indigenous to Kaua’i, and explorative kayaking trips to a secluded cove where a private treatment is offered in the most beautiful setting on the island. Outdoor lovers who do not wish to go to the spa for their enjoyment of nature can visit the many parks, trails, and island landscape which are a part of the community as a whole.

Visitors have the option to stay in one of 21 suites which surround the clubhouse. Some suites have massive master bedroom suites, plunge pools, and outdoor showers and lounge areas. Those seeking residency can choose from a variety of homes and cottages which border the ocean and/or the golf course. Homes range from 1,500 to 4,000 square feet. Outdoor and indoor spaces are merged into one allowing the traditional sunny Hawaiian sky to shine down upon you as you shower, eat upon the patio decks, or have a refreshing dip in the plunge pools some homes have.

Cottages offer 9,000 to 16,000 square feet lots. There are six different cottage house styles. Depending on your needs you can choose from a two bedroom to a four bedroom house on single or two stories. Some cottages even come with their own guest houses for any visitors you invite from the mainland. Outdoor showers, tropical gardens, and inner courtyards with plunge pools can be added to the cottage depending on which model you choose.

Residents and visitors do not have to go far, since the Kukui’ula Village within the community offers shopping, dining, and entertainment venues. So, once you enter paradise you’ll never have to leave!
