Maderas Poway, CA
The Maderas community is home to one of the most brilliantly designed golf courses in California. Johnny Miller and Robert Muir Graves are responsible for the course which was ranked not only the #1 course in San Diego but also the #6 golf course in California three years in a row (2003, 2004, & 2005) by the Zagat Survey. This course is associated with Troon Golf which is known for producing some of the most beautiful and visited golf course properties in the world.
The Maderas Golf Club is open to the public. However, reservations must be made at least 2 months in advance. The affordable green fees range in price from $75 to $135. Depending on the day and the time you want to play you may be paying a little more or less, but overall the rates are extremely affordable. Additional rounds are also offered at $45 if you want to play twice in one day.
The championship course at Maderas is a par 72 course. The developers made the course incredibly challenging offering tight fairways and sloping terrain. However, each hole has a bailout area if you simply cannot handle the pressure. The key is finding these areas which offer some much needed relief to even the most experienced golfer. Other challenges include 200 feet where the elevation changes sporadically, three lakes, native sycamore and oak trees which may block the path, and a bubbling creek which snakes across the terrain of the greens.
The course, as a whole, is not long. However, if you are not precise on every stroke you will have a much longer game than you anticipated. Mediocre and beginner players may prefer taking advantage of the driving range and practice greens which they can use to improve their game prior to attempting the actual course. Of course, the on-site instructors can also offer a helping hand and guidance in relation to your game if you need the help.
The Maderas golf club is located a little more than 30 minutes from downtown San Diego in the California Valley. The surrounding cliffs, trees, rocks, outcroppings, hills, and forests provide both residents and visiting golfers with a colorful, serene setting to play within. Nature lovers will be tempted by the views as opposed to the tees which are so gorgeous they’ve been known to interrupt a game so the player can snap some pictures!
The clubhouse at Maderas was designed in the style of a classic Italian Villa. This newly built structure offers a pro shop with the best brands in golfing equipment and attire. Shopping enthusiasts may check out the retail shop within the clubhouse. Those looking for a bite to eat can choose from the indoor dining room or eating out on the pavilion overlooking the course. Both a bar and Grille are available and the chef can also prepare the menu of your choice if you have a special event planned.
The Maderas community offers the most elegant estate homes in the valley. The gated community has a guard station and is on 1.5 acres overlooking the course. Homes start in the 1 million dollar range and go up from there within the community. Of course, the nearby city of Poway offers more affordable homes in the $200,000 to $350,000 range for those who are still interested in living near the course. Typical amenities for homes in Madreras include remote locations with homes of over 4,000 square feet, up to six bedrooms, luxury master bedroom suites, several different open floor plans, one and two story estates, swimming pools, and gourmet kitchens.
