Sand Ridge, Chardon, Ohio
Chardon, Ohio sits in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, about an hour’s drive east of Cleveland. It’s a quiet, upscale village with charming Victorian homes, interesting antique stores, and warm and inviting inns. The town revolves around the picturesque town square, site of the springtime Maple Syrup Festival. The Lake Erie, “lake-effect,” snow flies freely in Chardon, between November and March, but that only adds to the community’s charm. Just outside of town lies Sand Ridge, a luxury, golf development, comprised of individual, custom homes on large, wooded lots. In addition, rustic cottages, available for rental and for sale, surround the golf course, with sweeping front porches and wood-burning fireplaces.
Golf is the priority at Sand Ridge. The eighteen-hole, championship course, designed by Tom Fazio, takes full advantage of the region’s rolling meadows and tall, majestic trees. The course sits on 300 acres, half of which are undisturbed, yet scenic, wetlands. Named one of the top 100 courses by Golf Digest as well as an Audubon International Signature Course, Sand Ridge uses as little pesticide as possible to maintain the course, a policy in keeping with its environmentally conscience mission statement.
In addition to golf, residents of Sand Ridge can enjoy exploring the acres of Ohio marshland and the accompanying wildlife and plant life. There’s no swimming pool or tennis courts at Sand Ridge, but that just adds to the rustic, “away-from-it-all” ambiance of the place. The Clubhouse features a casual grill, pro shop, and locker rooms. Several winter ski resorts are within a short drive of the development.
Sand Ridge offers a luxurious escape from the bustle of the big city, yet is close enough to Cleveland to take advantage of its educational, cultural, sports, shopping, and dining opportunities. Chardon is a small, New England-style town with midwestern friendliness and eastern Ohio’s scenic beauty.
